Germantown Loses Two of Its Pioneers
Germantown, Aug. 13--
Germantown lost two of its eldes residents by death during the
past 24 hours, Mrs. Matilda East
having passed away at the age of 96 and Mrs. Mary B.
Shuey, at 94.
The latter died this morning at her home, 14 E. Market St, durng
the severe electrical storm which visited this section. She had
been ill for a number of months. She was a daughter of a
pioneer, George Boyer.
Surviving are her three nieces, one of whom Miss Edith Boyer,
resided with her. Funeral services will by conducted Friday
afternoon at 2:30 from the Ellerton Lutheran church with Rev. R.
A. Albert officiating.
Mrs East was the widow of William East and had resided here for
90 years. Her husband, a Civil War Veteran, died 40 years
ago.
Funeral services will be held from the Swartzel Funeral home
Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. L. B.
Vanatta, pastor of the United Brethren Church, will
officiate. Burial will be made in the Germantown Cemetery.
Mrs. East is survived by a sister, Mrs. Alice Pettit, Sunbury; a
brother, Louis Ryan, Dayton; two daughters, Mrs. Laura Booth, of
Miamisburg and Mrs. Pearl Boyer, at home; two sons, Edward, of
Dayton, and Ferd, of Franklin; nine grandchildren and 11 great
grandchildren.
*Matilda East is my ancestor, although I am also related
indirectly to Boyers.

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Fleming,
50, lifelong Dayton resident and wife of Clarence A. Fleming, who
died Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. at her home, 558 St. Joseph Ave, will
be conducted from the residence, Thursday, at 2 p.m. Rev.
Albert Beck officiating. Burial will be in Calvary
Cemetery.
Mrs. Fleming had been in failing health for several months.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Miss
Adelia Fleming and Mrs. Mildred Zahn; one sister, Mrs. Josephine
McKenzie; to brothers, Martin and Albert Ehrhard, and one
granddaughter.
